About Me
Hi, I'm Dylan. This is the long version of my bio from the homepage.
Work
I first got started in web development when I built an e-commerce site for my grandparents' gallery back in 2001 using Microsoft FrontPage. I followed it up with an eBay store that probably sold over $500k worth of art and collectibles after the gallery closed its physical location.
I re-entered the field in 2011 after graduating college. Not having any luck in the job market, I started my own digital marketing studio—Glaance Creative Media—and ran it for a decade. We handled clients in a bunch of different industries. I learned a lot, worked with some great people, and diversified my skill set into programming (mainly PHP and JavaScript).
In 2021, I accepted a job at a large national senior living company that was transitioning away from an agency. I helped to move their digital operations in-house, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars a year while also helping grow their lead volume through innovative digital advertising campaigns.
In 2024, I went back into founder space again and started Amethron with my brother, Aedon. We started as a small team focusing exclusively on enterprise web development, mainly complex CMS migrations. Since then, we've added a full range of digital marketing services and partnered with leading consultancies as an in-house digital services provider.
Recently, I've been looking beyond marketing and web development towards AI, robotics, and advanced manufacturing. I've set up a small R&D studio within Amethron to work on these projects and will write about them here and on the company blog.
Philanthropy
In addition to my work in the marketing and web development industries, I've also been active in the nonprofit scene. In 2011, I co-founded an organization called Excellence for Detroit, which provided high-quality college prep—based on a classical liberal arts curriculum—to at-risk high school students.
A year later in 2012, I started grad school for social work at the University of Michigan. My field work included conducting therapy with probationers and parolees in an addiction treatment center. (Someday I look forward to finishing that degree.)
I enjoy using my digital marketing and programming skill sets to help churches and not-for-profit organizations with great missions have an impact on their communities.
Life
I live in beautiful Northeast Michigan. When I'm not working, I enjoy hiking and cycling and enjoying (and photographing) the incredible natural scenery on this side of the state.
I used to have a podcast called Unburied History. Thanks to a lot of encouragement from my friends and a gift of some studio equipment (thanks Ron!), I'm going to re-launch it again in 2025.
I play piano and guitar and I guess I'm kind of a music afficionado.
